Performance and reputation
Rolex Air-King Oystersteel watches are carefully crafted using the finest quality raw materials, carefully assembled and nuanced. Each component is designed, developed and manufactured to the strictest standards.
Rolex uses Oystersteel for its steel case. Developed exclusively by the brand, Oystersteel belongs to the 904L steel series, the most commonly used superalloy in the high-tech and aerospace and chemical industries, of which the greatest corrosion resistance is essential. Oystersteel is very durable and can be polished and maintained even in the harshest environments.
The Air-King dial features a unique black dial, combined with large 3, 6 and 9 digital marker hours, and a significant minute scale for navigation time readings. It is named after Air-King in the same lettering that was specifically designed for this model in the 1950s.
The oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, and its design is both strong and comfortable. It is equipped with comfortable extension links of Oysterclasp and Easylink, which is also unique to Rolex. This clever system allows the wearer to increase the length of the bracelet by about 5 millimeters, providing additional comfort under all circumstances.
Air-King is equipped with a self-winding mechanical movement calibre 3131 that is fully developed and manufactured by Rolex. Like all Rolex permanent movements, the 3131 is a Swiss precision timepiece that has been specifically designed for high-precision watches and has been successfully tested by the Swiss Official Testing Society for the Observatory (COSC). Its architecture is the same as all Oyster watch movements, making it very reliable.
Conquer the sky
The new Air-King embodies the special relationship between Rolex and aviation in the golden era of the 1930s. This is a period of remarkable progress in the performance of aircraft. It continues to expand the ability of humans to conquer the sky and led to the launch of long-haul flights. One of the pioneers of this era, British pilot Charles Douglas Barnard set up many flight records. He said: “The unique quality of this Rolex watch is very suitable for flying purposes. I intend to use it for all future long-haul flights.”
